Math Factory First, thanks to you and the Math Factory Working Group (http://mathfactory.momath.org/tiki-index.php),
the success of last year's Math Midway led to many exciting developments. The
exhibit has been featured in museums outside of the New York tri-state area, and
the list is growing. Back on November 17, 2009 the New York State Board of
Regents granted a charter to the Museum of Mathematics. This was a huge step in
fulfilling our vision of a nationally renowned math museum. Visit
http://momath.org/ for more information and
updates. Beginning on February 6, 2010 the Math Midway will be exhibited at the New
York Hall of Science. Visit
http://www.nysci.org/visit/calendar-of-events/event/1769034 for more
information about this event. Mention Math Midway when requesting group or
individual tickets and you will receive a 10% discount. There will also be an
Educators' Open House at the New York Hall of Science on February 18, 2010 from
6 - 8pm. You may choose to visit these events to explore and learn more about
the new displays that you could possibly monitor at the World Science Festival . Of
course, if you are unable to attend on your own, arrangements can be made to
visit the Math Midway exhibition at the New York Hall of Science with members
from the Math Factory Working Group, who will personally guide and explain the
exhibits to you. We hope that after reading about these new developments, you will volunteer
to monitor a booth at this year's Math Midway at the World Science Festival in
NYC. We anticipate that there will be more exhibits on display, so it is very
important that we get as many volunteers as possible. Math Midway at the World
Science Festival (http://www.mathmidway.org/index.php)
will be on display Sunday, June 6, 2010. The date is about 4 months away, so you
will have plenty of time to recruit friends and colleagues who possess a strong
desire to promote math appreciation in our youth (and adults, too!). Please feel
free to forward this email. Once you know that you would like to volunteer, or if you have further
questions, please email Jennifer Cottone at
jcottone_19@hotmail.com. As the date gets closer, you will be emailed
available volunteering opportunities, shifts, location, etc. We look forward to
working with you once again! Math Factory Working Group |
