Any member in good standing can attend any NCMTA Board meeting. 2) Are the dates of the monthly board meetings fixed, with a calendar posted or are they determined from one meeting to the next? The date for the next meeting is set at the end of the previous meeting. Dates are then posted to this website. Our calendar is posted on our home page. 3) How does a rank-and-file member get an item on the agenda of the NCMTA board meeting? The best way is to email the president with your concern. Check our Contact NCMTA page. 4) How can I become more involved in the organization, other than being an officer or on the Board? On the home page you will find a list of our activities and a contact person. Pick an activity and contact the chairperson. 5) How can I contribute to the Newsletter? Send your submission to our president. Check our Contact NCMTA page. 6) Which professional organization should I join? The county in which I work or the county in which I teach? Why not both? If you must choose, join NCMTA, of course! 7) Is it beneficial to join the affiliates (NCTM and AMTNYS) as well as NCMTA? What are the benefits? Absolutely! Each organization maintains a website that is the gateway to all the resources the organization provides. You will get mailings about events that will help improve your practice as an educator. You will also support math education at the national, state, and local levels. 8) Is there a discount available if I pay more than one year's dues at a time? Can I pay more than one year's dues at a time? There is a discount for those who attend the Spring Dinner. You can pay for as many years as you like, but membership dues are not refundable. 9) Does NCMTA keep track of whether, in any given year, it has at least one member in each public elementary and secondary school in the county? Our membership vice president does a good job in assembling this data. Our college liaison officer maintains this effort. 11) How does a teacher become a member of NCMTA without attending one of the organization-sponsored events? Each event is listed on the website along with a contact email address for volunteers. 14) Is there a mechanism for making a suggestion to the NCMTA leadership without speaking to someone directly and how will I know my suggestion has been heard? The president can be reached at egq48@aol.com any time; just identify your comments as NCMTA related, and a response will follow.
15) How frequently can I expect the organization’s newsletter and will much of its contents also appear online?
The newsletter is published two or three times a year; while much of its contents also appear online, not all the news is made available to the webmaster.

If the date has to be changed for some reason, the Board has a network of email addresses for notifying the members, as well as posting the new date on the website.
18) Can the minutes of the meetings be reviewed and corrected by Board members within a week of each meeting and then posted on the website?
While that has not been the case in the past, suggestions are constantly reviewed by the Board.
19) Is it possible to know who is a member of NCMTA in the district or building in which I work?
When members join, they are asked to list their school affiliation. For membership information, contact the Membership Chairperson, Gabrielle Gizzi at gizzi@aol.com and identify your email as NCMTA related.
